Memorial Day 2019 In Appleton
APPLETON (WLUK) -- Veterans in the Fox Valley held Memorial Day early early, complete with music, a memorial, speakers, and a special salute to those who died.
The Fox Valley Veterans Council organized the event.
It had a bagpiper playing "Amazing Grace."
It had a bugler playing "Taps."
Veterans offered a gun salute.
Local government officials also spoke about the occasion, and why we need to remember the fallen.
"Every day should be Memorial Day. Every day, we should take some time to think about those who made the ultimate sacrifice, for which we have the freedoms some of us take for granted. If it wasn't for their sacrifice, we would not have the country we have today," said Tom Nelson, Outagamie County Executive.
This year is important, as it celebrates the 100th anniversary of the armistice which ended World War One.
