Do you remember what you were doing when you heard the news?
Today is the 20-year anniversary of the Iraq War. A day of reflection and remembrance of the war that started on March 20th, 2003.
Many Iraq War veterans commemorate this date by remembering those years and all who sacrificed and served our nation in the Iraq War as we hope that the Iraqi people have peace and freedom in their land.
We witnessed amazing bravery and selfless service during those 20 years.
We remember our nation's finest that we had the opportunity to serve in Iraq with.
For many Iraq Veterans, our time there still seems like it was yesterday. It had a lasting impact on our lives, the Iraqi people, and both our communities. Sounds, sights, or even certain smells can take us right back to these years of our youth.
As in previous wars, the war cannot just leave our lives without having an impact. We lost too many in the war and too many after.
Yet many strive to honor their life by living our own and together with our communities celebrate the freedom for which we served our nation for.
We remember the families, the friends, and the communities that supported us with cards and kind words from back home during our war. Many in our community, and veterans from previous wartime and peace continue supporting our veterans that served in wartime or during peace.
If you're looking to connect with other veterans or resources for help, connect with us. We can help, but not alone. Because there are over 30 area veteran organizations and countless community supporters here with our council that have your back too.
Thank you Iraq War veterans and families for your sacrifice then and thank you to all who continue to serve our nation and communities now.
